Sheekooyin is a Somali word meaning “stories”

Sheekooyin is a series of photographs I did on the streets of the mostly Somali neighborhood of Eastleigh, Nairobi in 2021. The series was comprised of photographs and on the fly interviews conducted over three days, each day focusing on one of the three main avenues that run the length of Eastleigh; 1st, 2nd and 3rd Avenue respectively. I learned a lot about myself and others in those three days. My biggest takeaway was that we are all unique, yet all the same in the end.
